Transfer account ownership

Hand your CentralHost account to its real owner — invite a new owner from the dashboard, or pass ownership to an existing teammate.

Set up CentralHost for a client or your company and need to hand it over? You can transfer ownership of the account to someone else. The new owner takes ultimate control — billing, ownership, and the team — while you either step back to administrator or leave entirely.

There are two ways to do it, depending on who the new owner is.

Quick handoff from the dashboard

This is the common case for someone evaluating CentralHost on a client’s behalf: you signed up, added one server, and now want the actual owner to take over.

When you’re the only member of the account and have a single server, a discreet line appears under the servers table on your Overview:

Set this up for a client or company? Transfer ownership

  1. Click Transfer ownership.
  2. Enter the new owner’s email and an optional name.
  3. Choose what happens after they accept:
    • Stay as administrator — you keep admin access but hand over ownership.
    • Leave the account — you’re removed from the account once they take over.
  4. Click Send invitation.

We email the new owner a secure link. The transfer completes when they accept — until then you remain the owner and nothing changes. While it’s waiting, the line shows:

Transfer pending · waiting for owner@company.com to accept · Cancel

Use Cancel to withdraw the invitation before it’s accepted.

If the account is genuinely yours and you don’t want the prompt, click No, it’s mine to hide it.

Transfer to an existing teammate

If the new owner is already a member of your company, transfer ownership from the team page instead. Open the user menu (your avatar, top-right) → Team, find the member, and use Transfer ownership from their actions menu. They become an owner; you keep administrator access but step back from ownership. See Manage your team for the full set of ownership actions (make co-owner, revoke ownership, step down).

What the new owner sees

What happens when they open the invitation link depends on whether they already use CentralHost:

  • New to CentralHost — they choose a password and their account is created, added to the company, and made owner in one step. The invitation itself confirms their email, so there’s no separate verification.
  • Existing user — they accept, and the company is added to the ones they can switch between, with them as the owner.

Invitation links are single-use and expire after 7 days.

What transfers — and what doesn’t

Ownership is about control, not your data or your money:

  • Servers, settings, and history stay exactly where they are. Transferring ownership doesn’t move or touch anything in your fleet.
  • Billing belongs to the company, not to a person. Server slots and AI credits stay with the account. Any credit you bought while evaluating simply stays on the account.
  • If a card was added for billing, the new owner should review the payment method after taking over, since billing is now theirs to manage.

A company always keeps at least one owner, so a transfer never leaves the account without someone in charge.

Frequently asked

  • Does the new owner have to accept? Yes. Ownership only changes once they open the link and accept — you stay the owner until then.
  • Can I get ownership back? If you stayed as administrator, the new owner can transfer it back to you the same way. If you left the account, you’d need a fresh invitation.
  • I don’t see the prompt on Overview. It only appears when you’re the sole member of a single-server account. If you have teammates or more than one server, transfer from the Team page instead.
  • The new owner didn’t get the email. Check spam and confirm the address. You can Cancel the pending transfer and start it again. The link expires after 7 days.
